One church, three villages, two thousand years of history
The Breedon Priory Church Heritage Project

Using money raised by National Lottery players, The National Lottery Heritage Fund supports projects that connect people and communities with the UK’s heritage. The Breedon Priory Church Heritage Project was made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to restore the church tower, run community events and improve our interpretation for all visitors, including a virtual tour and the content of this website. We are extremely grateful for their support.
We have been incredibly fortunate to receive generous support from the National Lottery, which has allowed us to carry out vital repairs and care for this special building at the heart of our community. Thanks to this funding, important work has already been completed, to repair the tower helping to protect a place that means so much to so many. That funding has now been fully used, and we are deeply grateful for the difference it has made.
Like many historic buildings, there is always more to do. Following our last Quinquennial Inspection, a few repairs are still needed, with another inspection due next year. As a listed and much-loved heritage building, all work must be carried out by skilled craftspeople—professional stonemasons and master artisans—ensuring it is preserved with the care and respect it deserves. This work takes time, dedication, and considerable resources.
Please take a moment to visit our fundraising page to see how you can get involved or lend your support. Every act of kindness helps us protect this shared place for future generations.

Using money raised by National Lottery players we support projects that connect people and communities to heritage. Our vision is for heritage to be valued, cared for and sustained for everyone, now and in the future. From historic buildings, our industrial legacy and the natural environment, to collections, traditions, stories and more. Heritage can be anything from the past that people value and want to pass on to future generations. We believe in the power of heritage to ignite the imagination, offer joy and inspiration, and to build pride in place and connection to the past. Whilst we will never know what the site at Breedon-on-the-Hill was called, the name we know it by is of interest in its own right. Being derived from the Celtic word ‘bre’ for hill, and the old English ‘dun’ also meaning hill, the name essentially translates as ‘Hill-Hill on the Hill’.
